MASALA DHAL

Ingredients: |
Red lentils |

1 ½ pints water |
|
|
4 tablespoons oil |
|
|
1 teaspoon cumin seeds |
|
|
½ teaspoon turmeric |
|
|
5cms garlic paste |
|
|
1 large onion |
|
|
1 ½ tablespoons Garam
Masala |
|
|
1 teaspoon salt |
What
you do:
1.
Put the lentils and water in the pan and bring to
the boil. Turn down the heat, put on the lid and simmer gently for 30 minutes.
Stir now and then to make sure the mixture does not stick.
2. Peel and chop
the onion.
3. In another pan
put the oil to heat gently. Add the cumin seeds and cook for one minute.
4. Add the garlic
paste and stir into the oil. Then add the onion and cook until it is
translucent.
5. Add the
turmeric and Garam Masala and stir well. Turn off the heat and leave until
lentils are cooked.
6. The lentils are
cooked when they have become thick and pulpy. Add the onion mix and heat
through. The dhal is ready to serve.
